National Forest Inventory / State Forest Inventory
The National Forest Inventory (Bundeswaldinventur) records large-scale forest conditions and forestry production capabilities on a sample basis according to a uniform procedure throughout Germany. It operates on a legally regulated 10-year cycle in a 4 km x 4 km grid of sample points. The National Forest Inventory is coordinated by a federal inventory management. State inventory managements are responsible for data collection and deployment of field survey teams.

In 2011 and 2012, the 3rd National Forest Inventory (BWI) was conducted in the Federal Republic of Germany based on § 41a of the Federal Forest Act. In Brandenburg, it was coupled with the 1st state-wide forest inventory.
In 2021 and 2022, the fourth National Forest Inventory (BWI 2022) was conducted in Germany. In Brandenburg, the data was collected in a densified 2 km x 2 km grid. The data was used for "Forest Development and Timber Resource Modeling" (WEHAM). Information on the various survey years of the BWI and WEHAM can be found at https://bwi.info. The State Forestry Competence Centre Eberswalde published a brochure on the most important information from the BWI 2022, which you can also order as printed material at https://forst.brandenburg.de/lfb/de/service/publikationen.
The state inventory management is carried out by the Forest Inventories Department at the State Forestry Competence Centre Eberswalde. You can reach the state inventory management team at landeswaldinventur@lfb.brandenburg.de.
